- We're just getting 2 RS/6000 boxes here to run our hospital software and
- need to hook up 1 or 2 terminal servers to it. We were using a VAX with
- a DECserver 200 and 550 (using LAT protocal) currently. I am a so-so unix
- administrator and need some info.
-
- The questions are....
-
- If we got different terminal servers with TCP/IP,Telnet and SLIP protocols
- would we need any external software(meaning 3rd party) to communicate with
- the devices? In VMS we needed a LAT console program.
-
- (Rephrase: I know a terminal server with Telnet can be used as a 'terminal'
- w/o any external software. What about printers/devices over SLIP??)
-
- If you don't need 3rd party software, how do you do it? (something with
- mkdev? )
-
- The terminal server(s) will be attached to a building back-bone (802.3).
-
- What about LAT protocol on UNIX (AIX)?
-
- Cost estimates?
-
- Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!!
- Thanks for the band-width!
