  10. I have an alpha version of a driver for dvi to HP Print Command Language
  11. (PCL, Understood by HP LaserJets and othe HP printers) and want to
  12. improve it with better \special support (HP-GL/2 and pbm graphics; it can
  13. already handle PCL graphics via \special}.  Also I want te update it
  14. to PCL5 for more efficiency.  The driver is quite fast as is (total
  15. time for processing the .dvi file of a 100 page, fairly complicated
  16. document is about 1.7 seconds on an HP 9000/730).   I call the driver
  17. "dvi2pcl.

  19. I seek collaboration with people interested in upgrading the "dvi2pcl"
  20. to turbo version to make publically available.  Reportedly, between 60
  21. and 70% of all printers out there understand PCL (about 3,000,000 HP
  22. LaserJets sold to date!)  so I think there's a market for such a driver.
  23. Many people use drivers that produce PostScript as output.  With
  24. "dvi2pcl" no PostScript is necessare.  Text and graphics are produced
  25. directly in PCL format.
