  11. steve simmons (comp.text.tex, 12 august 1992) is looking for
  12. size-independent computer modern fonts.
  13. what he is looking for does not exist.  computer modern is based
  14. on the philosophy that different sizes require certain variations
  15. in design that are not implementable through linear scaling, and
  16. i have yet to see a run-time font-generating system that provides
  17. for the rather large number and different kinds of parameters that
  18. are used to control the particular cm variations specified by the
  19. designer (knuth).  maybe sometime, but not yet, and not unless
  20. knuth says the result is cm.
