- I just purchased AT&T 5620 terminal. The reason that I bought it was
- simple--I liked the portrait screen. Also, the keyboard looked rather
- usable (as opposed to something like the evil Zeniths). Basically, I
- wanted something nice so I could work at home and this really fit the
- bill.
-
- I posted on netnews.comp.terminals about it. I had no idea what the
- mouse was for, etc, etc, etc... I really knew nothing about it. I got
- responses regarding layers and the like, but I still have a few
- questions.
-
- 1. Is there any easy way to say "draw a line from here to here" or the
- like, or would I have to go through the entire layers process?
-
- 2. What is the parallel I/O port used for? Do I have to use this if I
- want to run layers?
-
- 3. Can I run layers over a serial line? (aka modem)
-
- 4. Do I have to be on an AT&T system to run layers?
-
- 5. Where can I find layers software?
-
- 6. What is the AT&T UNIX System ToolChest?
-
- 7. Is netnews.comp.termainsl.tty5620 archived anywhere?
-
- 8. What are the pinouts for the mouse? Is it compatible with any other
- kind? (what were DEC and AT&T thinking when they put a metal ball in a
- mouse?)
-
- 9. What was the original selling price when the 5620 first came out?
- What is a good used price nowadays?
-
- 10. Where could I buy a manual? (or even borrow one?!?) Is there
- anywhere I could find on-line docs?
-
-
-
- Well, I think that's about it. I really appreciate your help. I'm
- really looking forward to using this thing to its fullest potential.
- It seems that the faster the computer industry rushes forward, the
- more I realize that I really don't need most of it!
