- SunOS 5.x, for some value of "x"), figure out whether the PROM monitor
- is capable of being handed 8-bit characters or not and, if so, not strip
- output to 7 bits?

- (Older PROMs will blow up if handed characters with the 8th bit set,
- which is why the "workstation console" driver has traditionally stripped
- characters to 7 bits before handing them to the PROM.)
