- Hi all, I hope someone out there can help me, I'm in a real fix. A year or so
- ago, I put some *vital* data, part of my research, onto 3.5" discs, using our
- SparcStation's floppy disc drive. I did it to free up a load of space.
-
- Originally, I was going to make a compressed tar-file on the Sun, and copy the
- file to floppy disc. Our Unix Guru said, "No! You can put it on <in
- such-and-such a way>". I've forgotten how he did it, and I've forgotten how to
- get the data off. Unfortunately, the Guru is no longer with us (sadly in every
- sense), and I'm stuck.
-
- I get the following:
-
- % mdir
- Probable non-MSDOS disk
- mdir: Cannot initialize 'A:'
- % bar tf /dev/fd0
- bar: Bad format. Insert volume 1 and press Return when ready.
-
- How else can I put data on/pull it off? I think I'm right in remembering that
- the data "filled the disc" or somesuch, so that I could not use it for anything
- else while I used it in that way.
-
- Please email/post/anything-you-like. I'm desperate!
-
- Many thanks, in advance. Simon.
