- My 3/110 and two shoeboxes is becoming a tottering tower-of-power on my desk
- and I don't like the "economy of scale" in three independent power supplies.
- I'm in the process of considering trading the s'boxes for an empty 3/160
- chassis. I'm not too familiar with these -- anyone done this? My questions:
-
- Electrical
-
- Can I just plug in the VME boards? (I've the processor/graphics card, extra
- memory and a SCSI controller). Must some termination take place on the
- 160 backplane or any other special cards or jumpers? Are all slots the same?
-
- Can I "turn down" the 850W supply in the 160 or repackage the 350W switcher
- in my 3/110? I don't like running space heaters in August, even in Canada.
-
- Physical:
-
- Can I just knockout a plate and rebolt my 50meg 1/2" tape or do I need other
- hardware - I don't want to get stuck looking for obscure mounting brackets
- or other hardware with a naked drive.
-
- How much room is there in that top panel? Standard or "best" disk layouts?
-
- Any other advise on configurating 3/160s or upgrading 110s to bigger chassis
- MOST welcome.
