- I apologize if this is a FAQ or not appropriate for this group...
-
- We have a SUN 490 with 32MB memory, 2-1GB IPI drives and are
- essentially running one (yes 1) database application. We need to
- improve the performance of our system on queries (we are using
- db_Vista data manager) and may have some money coming down the road.
- I would like input on the following upgrade issues, please:
-
- 1. Is it worth upgrading to a 690 or should we put the money into
- more memory/faster IPI drives in our 490?
-
- 2. I fwe upgrade to the 690, will our application (which compiles
- and runs under SUN OS 4.1.1 w/ SUN C compiler) still run on
- the 690?
-
- 3. If there is an OS upgrade for the 690 (I suspect there would have
- to b eto use MP) will our application still run and/or will
- it take advantage of the MP technology without new software
- or program modifications?
-
- 4. What would an s-bus NFS accelorator do for us?
-
- 5. What would a VMEBus Network Co-processor do for us?
-
-
- I realize these are broad questions and am looking more for direction
- than specific questions. I would appreciate any information you
- people could provide.
