  12. I apologize if this is a FAQ or not appropriate for this group...

  14. We have a SUN 490 with 32MB memory, 2-1GB IPI drives and are
  15. essentially running one (yes 1) database application. We need to
  16. improve the performance of our system on queries (we are using
  17. db_Vista data manager) and may have some money coming down the road.
  18. I would like input on the following upgrade issues, please:
  19.  
  20. 1. Is it worth upgrading to a 690 or should we put the money into
  21.     more memory/faster IPI drives in our 490?
  22.  
  23. 2. I fwe upgrade to the 690, will our application (which compiles
  24.     and runs under SUN OS 4.1.1 w/ SUN C compiler) still run on
  25.     the 690?
  26.  
  27. 3. If there is an OS upgrade for the 690 (I suspect there would have
  28.     to b eto use MP) will our application still run and/or will
  29.     it take advantage of the MP technology without new software
  30.     or program modifications?

  32. 4. What would an s-bus NFS accelorator do for us?

  34. 5. What would a VMEBus Network Co-processor do for us?

  37. I realize these are broad questions and am looking more for direction
  38. than specific questions. I would appreciate any information you
  39. people could provide.
