- I have two old Sun monochrome screens (made by philips) that went
- south with the same symptoms. Display is black and the screen makes a
- high pitched whine.
-
- I replaced the power supply in one of the systems (because I had a
- "known good" supply on hand) but the symptoms remained the same.
-
- I was told that it "sounds like the flyback transformer." It seems
- that this part was a weak point that often failed after a few years of
- use.
-
- My questions are:
-
- 1) Can anyone verify what the problem might be?
- 2) If it is the flyback transformer, where could I go
- to get the parts to fix it.
- 3) Can I install the parts myself?
-
- Thanks, Gene
