- Hi!
-
- I'm running a SPARCstation IPX with SUNOS 4.1.2
-
- My question concerns soundtool.
-
- Why is the reproduction so awful ? I connected a CD played to the sound input
- port, sampled a couple of my favourite tracks with soundtool and saved them
- on disk. No problems.
-
- However, when played back via soundtool they sound dreadful - like a an old fashioned
- transistor radio.
-
- It would be reallly nice to have decent quality sound on disk.
-
-
- I wonder if any of you SUN guru's can tell me why the repro is so bad ?
-
- It occurs to me that it is either:
-
- 1. The sample rate is too slow, although 8000 times a second sounds a lot to me.
- (I rebuilt soundtool with the #define governing the sample rate set to 25,000
- but it made no difference)
-
- 2. If the values are stored as integers (8 bit bytes), then there only 256
- possibilities, for the whole frequency range in any case.
-
- Anyway, if anyone has an explanation, solution, or some alternative software
- that will perform better please let me know.
-
-
- Cheers - Adam.
