- We got all sorts of conflicting advice, including replacing libc with a libc
- relinked with all of the latest resolver routines from bind. There have
- been posts about the proper way to include resolver routines while relinking.
- We just finally went back to stock, out of the box Sun stuff, with the -b
- switch in /var/yp/Makefile and the additional switch -d for ypserv to get
- additional host info from DNS. We are doing this on our main mail and NFS
- and NIS host. We are running naked hostnames (machine name only, no domain
- until after DNS takes over). We still have not completely resolved whether
- the difficulty a prof with an HP68040 is having is caused by this or his own
- config. He put latest HPUX on the same time as we reloaded out Sun server.
- He can connect and mail alright, but telnet and ftp directly from his
- machine to the outside do not work.

- I had to engage in a couple of tweaks to sendmail.cf. You have to run the
- one for main hosts. I had to jiggle around with $j and $m to get the
- domain to reflect properly in files that were going out. We had the
- additional problem of running Sun's DNI DECNET product and adding in a
- bitnet routine. We do not do UUCP right now which is a win. One of the
- biggest gotchas is Sun's practice of making the default /usr/lib/sendmail
- not support MX records. You have to move /usr/lib/sendmail to
- /usr/lib/sendmail -nomx and ln /usr/lib/sendmail.mx to /usr/lib/sendmail
- If you have trouble getting it to work, I can send you my sendmail.cf

- I am running nn on the Sun, but using nntp from another university.

- Good luck. Let me know if you have trouble with the stock Sun DNS NIS
- interaction with the HP's as clients. It is not clear whether you will
- still have HP's. We are considering adding a few HP 7x0's. You have to be
- careful and disable the excessively permissive NIS and NFS setups,
- particularly /etc/hosts.equiv with a + line.
