  16. I have a question regarding two NC400 in a SPARCserver 4/690 (Solaris 1.0.1 or
  17. SunOS 4.1.2).

  19. Is it possible to configure the two NC400 and the Sun, if both NC400
  20. ethernet boards are accessing the same physical wire (10Base2)?

  22. As I know, both boards will have the same ethernet MAC address (downloaded by
  23. software, not fron an EPROM), but will have different hostnames or IP
  24. addresses. I assume that this will produce some arp/rarp conflicts because
  25. two IP addresses will have the same ethernet MAC address.

  27. The installation guide to the NC400 only shows a multihomed server with an
  28. ethernet segment per NC400 board.

  30. Our ethernet is not designed to split it up into segments (in fact it's
  31. poorly designed but don't flame me...)  :-(
  32. There is just one way we could use two segments, but there is a little
  33. problem. At the moment this two segments are bridged. Some PC's are
  34. accessing an IBM AS/400 over LU6.2 encapsulated into raw ethernet frames
  35. through this bridge. In addition there is some EtherTalk and IBX/SPX traffic 
  36. through the bridge.

  38. If I would replace this bridge by the Sun (including the two NC400), would
  39. this connections (EtherTalk, encapsulated LU6.2, IPX/SPX) still work over
  40. this Sun? I assume no, since there would have to be some bridging
  41. capabilities between the NC400's...

  44. Has anybody some installation hints for us?
