- Close, but not quite. The XGL RTE (run time environment) libraries
- are for third party applications that were developed using the XGL API
- (application programmer interface). It spares all the third parties
- from having to ship the RTE with their applications, which would
- be redundant at best.

- If the app needs the RTE, it will need it even on a dumb frame buffer,
- not just on the accelerators.

- Of course the $64k question is: how do you know if you have any
- applications which need XGL RTE? The short answer is: you don't.
- So give up the 2MB (or whatever) of disk and install it, just to
- be safe. XGL RTE is bundled as part of Solaris 1.1 (aka SunOS 4.1.3)
- and Solaris 2.x, so you won't even notice it's there - the appropriate
- apps will just automatically use the libraries.
