- I had asked a while ago which tape cartridge
- should I use that would allow me the full 150mb
- storage promised with my QIC-150 cartridge drive.
-
- The definative answer came from the '1/4" Data
- Cartridges - Compatibility & Cross Reference
- Guide' that is produced by 3M.
-
- In this guide, the following information was gleaned.
-
- 1) DC6150 cartridges are designed for use with QIC-150
- data cartridge drives and will provide 150mb of
- storage.
-
- 2) DC6250 cartridges will provide 250mb of storage
- on a QIC-150 but were designed for use with the
- QIC-525 drives. Use on a QIC-150, "may cause
- a change in the head wear pattern. This may cause
- increased error rates and reduced head life, expecially
- when using standard and extended length data cartidges
- on the same drive."
-
- 3) Other cartridge types can be used but are not
- quaranteed or certified to work on a QIC-150. These
- are DC600A (60mb), DC615A (15mb) and DC6037 (37mb).
- Someone provided me with the analogy that this is
- similar to formating a DSDD diskette as a HD diskette.
- This is not quite true. These cartidge tapes are manufactured
- to the same recording densities as the DC6150 cartridges,
- but 3M doesn't guarantee that they will work correctly.
-
- The bottom line, as least according to 3M, is to only
- use DC6150 tapes on QIC-150 drives.

- Hotline at 800-328-9438.
