- I want to upgrade from SUN-OS 4.1 and Sun is telling me
- that the current version is available only on CD . This particular
- sales person also said I would have to install a new driver.
- My problem, is the Sun (IPX) has a VERY bare bones installation
- of the OS. I don't even have enough to rebuild the kernal so I
- could attach a new driver! The IPX came without the orignal
- installation media or manuals.
- Hopefully, I have been missinformed, but it currently appears
- as though I can not install the new version of the OS without
- first installing a CD-ROM driver, which I believe requires a
- kernal re-build.
-
- I would very much like you to tell me I am wrong, and would
- apreciate any helpful advice.
-
- By the way, would the much cheaper CD-ROM from DEC work (yes,
- it too is SCSI), or should I really buy the overpriced SUN CD-ROM
- that (sales person said) comes without any "freebe" software.
- I wonder too, if the SCSI/CD-ROM from my PC work ? I suspect that
- not all SCSI ROM drives were created equal, but heck, one can
- hope.
-
- Thank you very much;
