- I am now administering a Sun 3/50 which has experienced some, ah, ecletic
- administration in the past. While it has been running remarkably well, I'm
- now ready to upgrade it from V4.0.1 to V4.1.1 (is there any reason not to do
- this?). I don't have documentation that came with V4.1.1, and I'm a bit
- squeamish about doing the upgrade. My main concerns are regarding merging the
- old files back into the new filesystem. For instance, if I have local files
- scattered in some of the distribution directories, how can I automatically
- restore them from the tape without overwriting the newly installed files? I
- didn't see an option with either 'restore' or 'tar' to only extract new or
- newer files...
-
- What else do I need to watch for? I've got the 1986(!) Sun documentation
- which does describe the upgrade procedure, as far as suggested site-specific
- files to archive separately, but I'm quite sure there are others I need to
- worry about. Any general hints, shell scripts, or other advice you can
- provide to keep me from utterly frying this system would be most appreciated,
- either via email or posted here.

- Thanks very much,
