- Is there a way to configure a system (Sun 4's - some with SunOS
- 4.1.2 and some with 4.1.1) so that vi does file locking?
- A couple of my users have said that whenever they would edit
- a file with vi and, unbeknownst to them, another user was editing
- that same file, vi would bring them up in read only mode
- (in essence doing file locking). Now, they say, it no longer
- is doing this (as one overwrote the changes of the other).
- I have never seen this in the seven or so years I've been
- working with unix and vi - so either I have been completely
- missing something (wouldn't be the first time) or there is
- some other magic at play here.
-
- Does this ring a bell with any others out there?
