I don't have any experience with Legato Networker, but
I do know that Epoch Systems markets a network-wide,
heterogeneous backup product similar to Networker.
One of the differences is that Epoch sells their
backup product (called EpochBackup) together with
their automatic archival product, so the old catalog files
are automatically migrated or archived to optical
storage when space is needed on the magnetic disk
for new catalogs.  The product also has automatic
expiration of old catalog files, many other nice
automatic backup scheduling features, and self-service
recovery for users.  Depending on the size of your network,
you may want to check into this alternative also.  With
a network of any real size, the added automatic archival
and management of filesystems so they don't fill up and
you don't have to compress index or catalog files is
a very nice features.

Note:  I used to work for Epoch, but I didn't
work on the backup product, so I don't know a
lot of details about all its features.  However,
I know it supports Sun systems, DEC Ultrix, IBM
RS6000, HP (not sure what models though), and
maybe SGI systems.
