- The attempt to upgrade our IRIS4D/70GT to IRIX4.01 has left me
- frustrated and stranded. I am posting the story hoping that some
- kind soul out there will be able to help me...
-
- When we ordered the upgrade we were told that SGI has switch
- over to CD-ROM as the distribution media and in order to get
- the upgrade on a tape suitable for our machine we need to pay
- extra. When the tape arrived our machine couldn't read it and
- it turned out that it was meant for QIC150 drive while we got
- QIC24. Now, the sales engineer says that to install the new
- operating system we need to invest in either a QIC150 drive
- or a CD-ROM reader-
- Since our IRIS is connected to a SUN by TCP/IP I am looking
- into the possibility of using its tape drive or CD-ROM drive
- to install the software on the IRIS. How do I read the content
- of the high density tape into a directory on the IRIS using the
- drive on the sun? Are the formats compatible? Any help or
- suggestions will be highly appreciated.
