  17.     i have an sgi 4d/420 gtx that is on a very local
  18.     and small ethernet...also on this net is a gatorbox
  19.     connecting to an appletalk.
  20.     printing from the sgi box to appletalk laserwriters
  21.     works fine etc...
  22.     running 4.0.5 currently

  25. problem1.  i want to put another gateway (to the internet)
  26.            on the net.
  27.        i did an "add route net default <address> 1
  28.        and on a "netstat -rn" i can see it is in fact
  29.        a default gateway 
  30.        for some reason however, i can't telnet to the
  31.        gateway reliably (it worked once, but i don't
  32.            know how or why) then when i rebooted, and did
  33.            the "add route..." again...it would'nt work
  34.        (pings fail as well) though i can ping, then get
  35.            the arp entry...

  37. can anyone tell me what to check in what files ? and the
  38. format to put the entry in /etc/gateways...as well as where
  39. and what format to put the entry in the rc.d2<mumble> so that
  40. when the machine reboots, it automatically knows about the
  41. default gateway.???
  42. yes...network is "on", routed is "on"...the manual doesn't 
  43. say about anything else......

  46. finally installed 4.0.5 after months of disasterous problems,
  47. with biosym/felix/bruker software...and sterioview problems
  48. (after using sterio view, one had to reset the machine, which
  49. ended up wiping out system files)...and this problem is supposedly
  50. going to be fixed in 4.0.6 (according to biosym) but according
  51. to sgi people i've spoken to locally, they know nothing about its
  52. release schedule (they just got 4.0.5 and was told not to install
  53. it unless the customer was having severe problems...) considering
  54. the machine was down for 4 days...i guess that was severe enough...

  56. does anyone know when 4.0.6 might be released...
  57. i know if you put a dumb terminal on a port, after using sterioview
  58. you type in a command, to fix the screen, then eliminating the
  59. need for a hard reset workaround...but...

  62. i'd like to make this machine the "internet mail server/netnews
  63. server" for the site and its users...as well as mac users on the
  64. localtalk...
  65. A.  can anyone send me sample scripts that i can follow to implement
  66. such functionality....Eudora and Popper are mac-email public domain
  67. programs that people seem to recommend (over cc:mail, ce quickmail
  68. or microsoft mail), but so far i've been unable to find a ftp
  69. site to get it from...
  70. B.  can anyone send me a pointer to such an ftp site ?
