  13. when I did "ifconfig debug" the following entries appeared in the SYSLOG:

  27. Can anyone explain what these messages mean? I didn't find anything in
  28. the manual pages that could help me.

  30. ifconfig ec0 leads to the following output:

  32. ec0: flags=e67<UP,BROADCAST,DEBUG,NOTRAILERS,RUNNING,ALLMULTI,FILTMULTI,MULTICAST>
  33.         inet 129.69.14.180 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 129.69.14.255

  36. Additionally we have a problem with NFS in that it transfers data
  37. (write only) in a kind of burst mode.  This is like: two or three
  38. hundred KB are transferred, then there are a few seconds delay, then
  39. the next some hundred KB are transfered and so on. Watching this with
  40. nfsstat shows that everytime when it stops for a while afterwards
  41. timeout and retrans are incremented by one. Maybe the reason for the
  42. timeout has something to do with the ifconfig error messages. (they
  43. don't coincide in time).

  45. I don't know if these two problems are related, maybe, but ftp for
  46. example works fine.
