  12. Several hours ago the above message popped up in all of my
  13. windows and also in /usr/adm/syslog (I'm running a 4D/360 GTX,
  14. Irix 4.0.5).  A few minutes ago I noticed that NIS service
  15. for group was no longer working, even though password service
  16. still worked (this machine is the NIS master for our domain);
  17. i.e. an ls listing would show file owner's names correctly
  18. but would show numerical group membership.

  20. By touching /etc/group.yp, cd'ing to /usr/etc/yp and makeing group,
  21. I got NIS group serving to work again.

  23. I've spent quite a while with TFMs trying to figure out what
  24. all this means, to no avail.  Therefore:

  26. 1) What does "svckudp_dupdone: insufficient duplicate request cache"
  27. mean?  Should I worry about it?  Can I fix it?  Should I fix it?

  29. 2) Is it reasonable that the NIS problem is related to this error
  30. message, or is this a symptom of some other underlying problem?
  31. If the latter, how can I track this down if it happens again?

  33. 3) Will I ever have a simple problem to solve?  Or are they
  34. defined such that the simple ones aren't problems?
