- To add one more bit, and be quite precise, I have personally
- heard the following, (my paraphrase, not a direct quote, but definitely
- the intent of what was said),
- directly from Microsoft people, in public:
-
- 1) NT actually works on both R3000s and R4000s.
- 2) The CDROM has the R4000 version on it. IF an R3000 market
- would develop, we would support it. However, as it stands,
- we don't really expect that to happen, given that right now,
- vendors building MIPS ARC-compliant machines are interested
- in R4000s, and by the time this all gets into more-than-
- developer volume, R4000s and R4000 derivatives will be
- cheap enough anyway.
-
- So, anyway, I think it is clear: if some compelling reason
- happens to make them support R3000-based products (as opposed to
- just happening to have that running), they'll do it,
- but don't expect so right now.
