- I went looking at Silicon Graphics machines last time I needed a computer.
- I think your main sticking point is that most people can get 5 386s for the
- price of one SG machine. School computer labs don't work by having the
- entire class about one amazing powerful machine. They tend to give individual
- students and pairs small, low-powered machines which they may experiment on.
- It's a bit like the difference between doing physics experiments with marbles
- and ramps, or doing them with the SLAC. I don't know. I learned to program
- on the ZX81, and I still think it's the best machine to learn on. You write
- good, tight code when you've only got 1K of RAM! It's also good for small
- kids because they don't have to write out complete names, and it tells you
- right away when you make a syntax error.
- Richard. =) (Smile! Your machine is, without much doubt, _far_ more
- powerful than anything I can even hope to look at for 5 years.)
