- | I have a SGI supported DAT and all works well on it. I read recently
- | in this newsgroup about partitioning the tape and was hoping to get
- | some more information on this. I would like to split a 60m tape
- | (1.3 Gbyte) into 7 tape partitions so that a daily backup can be made
- | of all changed files without having to do a tape change or overwrite
- | the previous day's backup ( and thus allowing the system manager a
- | week to go on holiday and still let the users delete old files at random )
- |
- | 1) is this possible and if so how do I do it as it does not seem to be
- | covered in the manuals.
-
- No. As I said in my posting of the latest mt man page, 2 partitions
- is all you get. You *can* do multiple tape files (mt feom, then
- tar, bru, dump, cpio, or whatever).
-
- | 2) if (1) is true, is there a nifty script to queue the backups each day
- | or an ftp site etc with an example of this
-
- Several have been posted here for multiple tape files per tape.
-
- | 3) if the backup is greater than the partition, will there be any
- | disasterous consequnces or will the backup exit cleanly and leave
- | appropriate warning messages.
-
- If it is tar, bru, cpio (but NOT dump!), it will prompt for an
- additional tape. Of course, when run from that isn't very useful...
