- Hello:
-
- I wish to thank the people that responded to my cry for help with
- getting the NeXT to read /etc/fstab.
-
- I have a new problem, and this one is very strange. I edited
- /etc/passwd and /etc/group and put the funky escape code which tells
- the machine to consult YP maps for group and username lookups. The
- only problem is that I'm getting multiple entries now for people (one
- for their entry in NetInfo databases and also one for the YP lookup).
-
- Perhaps I should use something like niload passwd . < /etc/passwd, but
- I'm not sure. The manpage on niload sucked the big "you-know-what" in
- my book.
-
- Should I disable NetInfo? I feel that it might not be easy and also may
- cause quite a bit of grief later on. It seems that NetInfo gives the
- NeXT quite a bit of functionality and I would be crippling it to disable
- it. I just can't seem to make NIS (YP) and NetInfo coexist very nicely.
-
- My second problem is about mailers. Is it best to use the sendmail.cf file
- for /usr/spool/mail as an NFS mount? I'm getting errors about not being
- able to append to the current mail file. I get the impression that I'm
- dealing with write permissions over NFS and that is causing the mailer on
- my NeXT to bomb out. Just how does the mailer know how to deal with NFS
- mounts for /usr/spool/mail if you use that particular sendmail.cf file? I'm
- currently mounting the mail directory to a Sun.
