- Since he said that they are "ethernet compatible", perhaps they have
- ethernet cards in them already. But even if he doesn't - there are
- two reasons to go with ethernet cards in the Macs :
- 1 - The GatorBox is around $2500. You can buy a lot of ethernet
- cards for that. If the macs you have have slots, you can get
- ethernet cards for them (actually, with the Kinetics EtherSC, any
- Mac can have ethernet - it uses the SCSI port).
- 2 - LocalTalk (or PhoneNet) is around .15 Mbps. Ethernet is around
- 10 Mbps. If you're doing a lot of traffic, not only is the gatorbox
- going to be bogged a bit, but access time will be slooooow on the
- Macs.
