  17. MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota, August 4 1992 -- Black Adder Research announced
  18. today the release of WarpIt, an image manipulation application for NeXT
  19. computers. MIDIapolis Systems announced an agreement with Black Adder
  20. Research in which MIDIapolis Systems will distribute WarpIt throught its
  21. dealers.
  22.     "WarpIt is a powerful image processing too, the first of its
  23. kind on the NeXT platform", said William Rozzi, owner of Black Adder
  24. Research.
  25.     WarpIt allows user to perform animated transformations of digital
  26. images, similar to the morphing effects featured in recent videos and
  27. feature films. For example, an image of a person's face could be distorted
  28. over a series of frames to make their nose grow. The resulting sequence 
  29. may be edited, played back, and saved as an animation file.
  30.     In addition to the non-linear mesh warp, WarpIt also includes
  31. rotation, shear, perspective, mirroring, and scale change operations, all
  32. implemented using non-aliasing algorithms.
  33.     "It's another step towards establishing NeXT as a leader in the
  34. computer graphics world", said Gerard Schwarz, president of MIDIapolis
  35. Systems.
  36.     WarpIt is expected to be used in a large variety of field including
  37. graphic arts for photo correction and electronic caricatures, law
  38. enforcement for mug shots using composites of warped real images, multi-
  39. media for still graphics and animations, cartography for image registration,
  40. and for the development of icons from real images.
  41.     Because NeXT workstations have built-in Display PostscriptTM, the
  42. user sees high-quality graphics on the screen and on the printer. More than
  43. any other computer, the NeXT compuger provides true WYSIWIG (What you see
  44. is what you get) capabilities. WarpIt takes full advantage of these
  45. capabilities.
