- I'm looking for help and advice on hooking a modem to a NeXT machine. The
- machine is NFS mounted on a campus network. I hooked a USR Courier 2400 to
- it and although can dial out cannot use it for dial in. It appears as if the
- DCD line is not being carried to the NeXT. If I put the modem in the "ttys"
- file with "-D2400" on and then KILL -HUP 1 I see the NeXT trying to send the
- login prompt to the modem even though there is no carrier. I also get a
- "device busy" when then trying to use "/dev/cua" for outbound. Neither
- forcing DCD on or turning the modem off allow me access to the modem for
- outbound (/dev/cua) until I remove the "/dev/ttyda" from the "ttys" file by
- setting it to "off".
-
- Does this sound like the modem? If so, what specifically must I check (and how)
- when looking for a new modem?
-
- Thanks for any help!
