  22. There are two ways to fix this.
  23. 1) Replace the system. If you do this be sure to drag the old
  24. System file to the trash then startup with the System 7 Install
  25. 1 disk. If you don't trash the old system first, the installer
  26. saves the desktop pattern from the old system file and puts it
  27. in the new one.You will have accomplished nothing.
  28. 2) Use ResEdit.
  29. <Children under 18: Ask your parent's permission before using
  30. ResEdit>
  31. Open the System file with ResEdit.
  32. Double click 'ppat' and select and cut resource #16. This is
  33. your current desktop pattern.
  34. Double click 'ppt#'. This is where the color patterns live.
  35. Double click resource #0, the only one.
  36. On the right side of the picker, select any one of the color
  37. patterns by single clicking it.
  38. Copy and paste this pattern into 'ppat'.
  39. Do a <Command> <I> or select "Get Resource Info" from the
  40. Resource menu.
  41. Change the ID# to 16.
  42. Save and quit ResEdit.
  43. You should now be able to select any of the color patterns in
  44. the General Cdev.
