- I am having a few problems getting a network of system 6 and system 7 working.
- Ideally, we would like to put all of our Macs (mostly SE/30s) on system 7, but
- we have a problem with background printing when we do. We absolutely have to
- have background printing. When we first tried installing sys 7 on all the
- macs we got a "Not enough memory to print" message on all of the macs. We
- checked the memory size of the cache and reduced it to 32K. We also tried
- increasing the allocated memory for the application (a database). Neither
- helped. The other problem is we currently don't have a sys 7 driver for our
- HP Laserjet III for Mac. Can we use a Sys 6 driver? We were trying to drive
- TI laserprinters with a standard apple printer driver. In any case nothing
- worked and we were forced (due to time constraints) to go back to sys 6. I
- also noticed that background printing came to a halt when I connected 2 macs
- running sys 7 to the rest running sys 6. The program successfully spooled the
- docs to the Print Monitor but the Print Monitor wouldn't print the docs. I
- was using Appleshare and the File Sharing from sys 7 to serve to the sys 6
- macs. File sharing worked fine though. I was able to transfer files no
- problem. I understand printing might be slow while Appleshare is really active
- but if its idle should it totally halt background printing? Any ideas would be appreciated.
