- I just returned from France and think I have a good handle on the reason.

- Frankly it costs more money to do business in Europe than in the US. Apple
- has set up offices and staff in Europe to maintain a business "presence".
- This "presence" has higher rent for office space, more expensive living
- expenses (food, etc), higher taxes, higher plane fares, higher telephone
- charges, etc.

- Apple then has to pass its costs on to the "European" Consumer.
