- From the original article:

- I restart and rebuild the desktop. All is fine. But if I restart again
- without holding down opt-cmd keys, icons are lost. REbuilding again
- restores. Another restart without rebuilding and many are lost.
- Ideas?

- I had the same prob on my machine. (Another curious symptom on my machine:
- even rebuilding didn't restore icons to certain files, such as the Clipboard.)
- I solved the problem permanently by deleting the desktop DB and DF files.
- 100% recovery with no subsequent probs.
-
- The cmd option rebuild actually justs updates the desktop files. If you erase
- there are two ways of erasing the desktop files.

- There are two ways to erase the desktop files.
- 1. Use a utility such as DiskTop (payware) or DeskZap (freeware) that can
- delete invisible files. ResEdit will probably work, also.
- 2. Use Salient Software's freeware DeskTopReset, an init that turns every
- rebuild into a true rebuild, with desktop files deleted ad rebuilt from
- scratch.
-
- Hope this helps.
