  10. With all this discussion on System software in ROM, I just had to
  11. put my 2 cents in...

  13. After mucking around with the Classic's ROM bootup disk, I've come to
  14. hate ROM disks. This hate also stems from use of CDROMs of PD software
  15. on which many programs are duplicated.

  17. Basically, you can't change anything!

  19. For system software like that on the Mac, I love to personalise things.
  20. I doubt anyone will be able to do that on ROM machines.

  22. A good example is that of the HP Palmtop PC. Even its AUTOEXEC.BAT file
  23. (to Mac users, this is a BATch file that merely loads stuff on startup)
  24. is in ROM, and there is no way I can change it if I want to bootup into
  25. a different application.

  27. A compromise would be that of a System CDROM that the Mac can bootup from.
  28. Might be useful in the CDROM equipped Macs so rumoured.

  30. Gee! This will save 5MB on the HDD!
