- I guess this is the low cost Chyenne M7213 that Maxtor promised it'll have
- a MTBF of 200.000 (yes, i know, don't get fooled about these numbers, but
- you've got an idea about its reliability). It's as fast as the Quantom
- drives, for $130 less (the low cost is due the use of less components in
- the drive, which decreases the assembly time and increases the reliability).
- I wonder if anyone will by 200MB drives from other manufacturers than Maxtor.
- I think prices will drop drastically because of it, and not only for 200MB
- HD's but also for 100MB, because many people may decide to pay extra $120
- to get double capacity.

- : I've had one in my Quadra for about 6 months and I LIKE it. It is the
- : quietest drive I've ever encountered. Not only is it virtually silent
- : while running, it barely makes any noise while accessing. When I replace
- : another external I have, I plan on getting another Maxtor like it.
- :
- : From a speed standpoint, I think it's a bit slower than a Quantum. I think
- : that, at least in my Quadra, other drives might be faster. I'm not sure
- : the difference would be noticeable, however.
-
- The drive has 15ms access time, the same thing as the Quantum. It's the
- SCSI interface which is slower (SCSI I vs SCSI II), in all MAC's except
- Quadra, it doesn't matter because they have a SCSI I controller, and i
- heard that Apple decided to stop integrating SCSI II for lake of standard.
