  12.    I have an 8-24GC video card on my Mac IIfx (13" monitor), and while I
  13. probably can't help you with your problem, maybe someone can provide an
  14. explanation for my problem..
  15.    I bought it a year ago when I bought my system; at that time the Mac
  16. magazines rated it as being the fastest.  It was by Apple, so I assumed I
  17. couldn't go wrong.
  18.    When I received my system, the salesman grimly informed me that the
  19. video card wasn't compatible with System 7 (yet), so it would only work in
  20. unaccelerated mode.  Great.  Whatever.  He said a fix would be coming soon.
  21.    Several months later, I was called to bring in my video card; apparently
  22. the hardware on the card needed to be upgraded to be System 7 compatible.  I
  23. got the new card, and plugged it in my machine.  Didn't work.  Called the
  24. dealer.
  25.    He called Apple.  Apple told him that the card had been updated, but the
  26. s/w still wasn't completed.
  27.    Finally when the software became available (December?), I installed it, and
  28. I would hesitate greatly in saying that it works.
  29.    I have the latest release (v 7.01 from May), but this doesn't work much
  30. better.
  31.    The problem is this: whenever I turn on acceleration, my IIfx system
  32. inevitably crashes within 10 minutes.  The solution: I have only had acceleration
  33. on for about 20 minutes in the past year.  I paid over a thousand dollars
  34. extra for this acceleration.
  35.    Is it an INIT conflict?  Not so far as I can see..  I've done extensive
  36. testing, and the only incompatibility I find between the 8-24GC software and
  37. my system is with System 7 itself.
  38.    (I should note I do use 68030 Cache control.)

  40.    I'm sure this subject has come up before, but I just started accessing
  41. news, so I've missed any discussions about the 8-24GC.  If anyone could bring
  42. me up-to-date on what has been concluded here about it, I'd be grateful.
