- Greetings all,
- My MacII has been behaving strangely for the past few months. Before
- I tow it to the shop, has anyone out there seen these symptoms?
-
- 1. I turn on the power strip to the equipment
- 2. I start the computer by pressing the keyboard switch
- 3. The computer starts.
- 4. The happy mac appears.
- 5. The startup message appears.
- 6. The startup message is replaced by a message stating
- that there has been a bad instruction (or sometimes
- it says that there's been a bus error). The dialog
- also suggests that I start with the appropriate keys
- depressed such that system extensions are turned off.
- 7. I power the unit down.
- 8. I restart by pressing the keyboard switch.
- 9. The computer boots fine just as though nothing
- bad error happened.
-
- Leaving power strip on overnight does not change the problem.
- Pressing the reset key does not make the problem go away. Booting
- from floppy doesn't change the problem. If I start by pressing the
- switch on the back of the unit, the happy mac icon is replaced by
- the sad mac icon and the code 0000003F 000000FF. I have tried
- reseating everything not bolted down (the cpu, the ram, the nubus
- cards, the disk cables, etc) to no avail.
-
- Does any of this sound familiar? If so, please followup or send
- me email.
-
- Regards,
- Bill Cramer
