- Huh? I use a PS/2 tower machine, and no matter what kind of disk I
- put in the drive, when I enter the 'format' command, it _always_ tries
- to format the disk as high density. Then I always have to go fishing
- for the DOS manual so I can remember the command-line option to make
- the machine format the disk at the correct density.
-
- I don't understand what you mean by Macs 'not adapting' to different
- capacities. If you put a disk in a Mac, it will always read, write,
- and format it at the correct density, no matter if you're using
- double-density or high-density. (The only Macs that can't cope with
- high density disks were discontinued four years ago.)
-
- As for the LC II question: you shouldn't be using an HD disk in a Plus
- anyway! Unless you accept the fact that your data may become
- unreadable at any moment, that is. I won't go into the details here,
- because they've been rehashed umpteen times in this newsgroup already,
- but suffice it to say that you shouldn't ever format HD disk as DD, or
- vice-versa.
-
- Maybe the LC II ought to notice that the HD disk is formatted as DD,
- and tell you the problem, and offer to reformat the disk and copy the
- data back onto it for you, but it doesn't, so this is just another
- case where the user has to be careful not to misformat disks.
