- | Yeah, I can get the same deal, but I have to buy in a few weeks:
- |I'm graduating....
-
- And I'm graduating tomorrow!! ;-) Finally...
-
- | The IIsi is at the lower limit of the power I need anyway, since
- |I do a lot of engineering and math intensive stuff.
-
- Ditto here. I have done 3d graphics proramming (rendering, illumination
- models) and some physics simulations. I have been developing the basic
- programs on my Mac + (ugh!) and then running the trials on a campus IIci.
- I went ahead a purchased a IIsi this past Monday and I received it on
- Wednesday. It's nice; not as fast as a ci, but many times faster than
- my plus. (Approximately 10x faster in floating point)
-
- | Is a $1600 IIsi too good of a deal to pass up, or should I wait and
- |pay retail on a new machine, or maybe get a IIci now?
-
- At my campus, IIsi 5/80, with included software (dictionary, "encyclopedia,"
- resume writer, calendar program, and Correct Grammar) was a flat $1500.
- My entire setup was just at $2K. (std keybd II, 12" RGB screen).
-
- | My own theory is that prices on the old machines are gonna drop
- |once the new ones come out and a IIsi to hold me over for a year or two.
- | It might be the most economical in the long run....
-
- I won't be surprised if the machines drop. But since I don't know how
- to use a crystal ball and Apple had these IIsi price cuts NOW, I jumped.
- I feel like I got a decent deal. It sure beats the LC system a friend
- of mine bought back in May for about the same cost.
-

- About the included "Student Aid" software package...
-
- ResumeWriter is a decent program. You plug your information in and it
- does a quick, but nice job of rearranging the information "blocks"
- to whichever format you choose.
-
- The Dictionary is nice. Thesaurus, anagram search, etc. A GoodThing.
-
- Encyclopedia?? Uh, this has lots of topics, but is very very limited
- in detail. It can be called a topical dictionary. "Hanggliding" brings
- up about 3 lines of information about gliding. On the other hand, I
- wasn't expecting pictures and this program does its job well; that is,
- it gives you a quick understanding of a topic.
-
- The calendar program seems to be nice; haven't played with it yet.
-
- Correct Grammar also seems to be decent; haven't played with it either.
-
- just my $1/50...
