- Kent,
-
- 6 volts won't be enough --- the bottom end of the Battery DA corresponds
- to roughly 7 volts. If there isn't enough voltage, it won't boot.
-
- I tried one of those cigarette lighter adapters, suitably re-worked to
- drop 12 volts down to 7.5 volts and beefed up for to handle a little more
- current (this device was built around an IC voltage regulator). On paper
- it looked like it should've worked, and bench testing with a meter showed
- everything was okay. But after a day of using it, my PowerBook got fried
- such that it would work if I used the regular AC adapter, but it wouldn't
- charge the battery nor would it boot off of the battery.
-
- I decided to stick with software instead after that --- the consequences
- of making a mistake aren't as $$$$!
