- If the company goes out of business, the program will expire itself with no
- recourse. If the program keeps my data in a proprietary format, I could lose
- my data. Why should it be necessary to pay for an unnecessary service? I
- won't buy that program. (And yes, I routinely pay for software.)
-
- At least this concept is useful for further exploring the moral bankruptcy of
- the "license" idea.

- Excuse me, I think pay-for-use is JUST the way to go, just
- like radio stations when airing songs. Of course you would
- buy the software even if you have to pay every year:
-
- Let's say your WP costs $300. Then, since the WP manufacturer
- plays a lot of "clever" tricks, it breaks every 2 years, and
- you need to upgrade, at $100 a pop. What's different in
- paying $100, yearly, instead ? Table it:
-
- Year Cost Cost
- 1 300 100
- 2 300 200
- 3 400 300
- 4 400 400
- 5 500 500
- 6 500 600
- 7 600 700
- 8 600 800
-
- As you see, the initial cost is really cheap, and it's not
- unti lyear 6 that the other path is cheaper; however, that's
- not counting interest, and if you don't like the product
- after the first year, you're out $100 instead of $300.

- - I have decided that it is not boxes but my lack of skill that's the problem.
- - Traitor! This kind of attitude will get you nowhere around here. If you must
- know, it's not your boxes that are the problem, it's your lack of a
- sufficient number of boxes. Go out and buy something.
