  13. Here is an updated summary of word processor features. I've removed a few
  14. minor and confusing columns and fixed a number of mistakes, especially in
  15. the description of Word.

  17. Conclusions:
  18. For fancy work such as books or camera-ready papers, I think FrameMaker is
  19. your best bet, if you can afford it, followed by Word. FrameMaker's main
  20. limitation is that it is harder to use for simple things. However, as soon
  21. as you want anything fancy done, FrameMaker pulls way ahead of Word. For
  22. features supported by both products (such as tables and equations), I find
  23. FrameMaker to be consistently more powerful and easier to use. Plus
  24. FrameMaker offers important features not found in Word, such as powerful
  25. autonumbering. FrameMaker is also available on more other computers
  26. (including unix boxes), and moving files between machines is trivial (no
  27. reformatting necessary).

  29. For simpler work I recommend Nisus, followed by WriteNow. Both are easier
  30. to use than Word or FrameMaker. WriteNow is least expensive, but I
  31. personally find its limitations frustrating even for simple work. Nisus is
  32. much less limiting and offers multiple undo which will save you hours of
  33. work.

  35. I've attempted to be accurate, but errors probably remain. Corrections and
  36. additional information (especially about other good word processors (Taste?
  37. MacWrite?) would be most welcome.
