- The Cx486SLC has a 16 bit data bus, the 486 instruction set (same as 386
- plus a handful of others), and a 1KB on chip cache. This means it's sort
- of like a 386SX but the cache and other improvements make it faster but
- not quite as fast as a 486. Note that IBM has its own special 386SX
- chip with an 8KB on chip cache which it sells in it's own machines only. The
- Intel 386SL also has an on chip cache. I don't know how the Cyrix chip
- compares to these two.
-
- >Also what is the signifigance of the labels SL,AX,DX??
-
- Uh, not much at all, except for marketing. I don't know of any AX
- chips. "SL" seems to mean something like "Single word Low power" at
- least in the context of "386SL". "DX" might mean "Double word X"
- except that the 486SX also has a 32 bit data bus. The whole Intel
- compatible processor naming scheme is quite arbitrary. If you want to
- know what it means read the spec sheet.
-
- The good people in comp.sys.intel know more about this topic in general.
