- What kind of BS is this? I've had enough of all this OS/2 is this and
- OS/2 is that from people who don't know OS/2 from a rat's ass. I have
- been running OS/2 2.0 for about 3 months now on my work machine and on
- my home machine, and it is EXCELLENT.
-
- This is not to say that I haven't had my share of OS/2 headaches. It is
- a bitch if it doesn't like your hardware, and ends up taking a while
- getting it set up OK, but once you're set, it is a godsend.
-
- I have not crashed OS/2 in over a month now.
-
- I often play Ultima Underworld in a full screen DOS session while a 14.4K
- transfer goes at 1650cps in the background, no problem at all. So far,
- there are two things I couldn't get OS/2 to work with, Mathematica for
- Windows and Autodesk 3D Studio. Other than these two (which, by the way,
- try to kick the 386 into proteced mode, which OS/2 does not allow),
- everything has worked perfectly.
-
- As far as protected mode apps go, as the DPMI memory spec gets incorporated
- into more and more software, they will no longer be a problem.
-
- One final thing, once Windows NT comes out, if it is better than OS/2 at
- multitasking, etc, I will switch to it. It's stupid to get fanatical about
- some OS or computer system. I just want something that works as advertised,
- and OS/2 DOES.
-
- PS - my system is a Zenon 486/50 EISA w/8 megs ram...my system at work is
- an IBM PS/2 model 90. I use IDE and SCSI together at home and SCSI
- at work. My system has an Orchid PDII Eisa card with the .9 beta
- level ET4000 Orchid drivers at 1024x768x256...still waiting for
- release drivers. At work, obviously I use XGA (it's a PS/2).
-
- Flames/comments welcome.
