- We accidently deleted the contents of a subdirectory on the hard disk
- of an AT clone. I immediately realized what happened and ran UNDELETE from
- PC-tools 7.1 (system is running ms-dos 3.3, single partition 20MB hard drive).
- There was no file activity after the delete and before I ran Undelete.
- (Note that I had not run MIRROR and did not have file tracking on). So
- undelete saw all the files (about 50) and said we had GOOD chance to recover
- them all. As I went through the files one by one and typed in the first
- character and undeleted the file, every so often the next file then
- changed from GOOD to BAD probability of being undeleted and pc-tools
- could no longer undelete it. It is as if when PC-tools was working it
- overwrite areas of the disk so that it ruined the chance of undeleting
- subsequent files. Can anyone explain what happened or what I did wrong.
- I have been undeleting files for years using many programs and this is
- the first time I have ever seen this. I don't care about those
- files, but I want to make sure it never happens again.
