- A couple months ago I bought a clone mail-order for work on a particular
- project of mine. Since then I've discovered that I need two megs to work
- with, instead of the one meg that I ordered. So, I got myself some simms
- and popped 'em in, and...they aren't being recognized.
-
- I have a 386-40 motherboard, not sure of the original manufacturer, but
- the manual calls it a FS3 Main Board. The bios is AMI. I have two banks
- of 256x9 simms (the 3-chip kind). The manual claims that nothing needs
- to be done to the motherboard to get it to recognize different
- configurations of memory.
-
- I've switched the two banks with the same results, so it doesn't seem to
- be a problem with the chips. I've also fiddled with the settings in the
- bios to no avail. There is one bios setting in the manual, "Fast Gate A20",
- which looks interesting, but it is curiously missing from the bios setup
- screens.
-
- I have had some bad luck related to getting in touch with the outfit I
- bought the machine from (most of it not related to them), and will try
- again as I am able, but in the meantime, is there anything obvious I
- should be looking for?
