  13. I'm in the market for an external high speed data&fax modem,
  14. and I'm currently looking at the Twincom 14.4 DF (seen for $299
  15. on mail order).

  17. It says in the ads, among other thigs,
  18. 14,400 bps Industry Standard, V.32bis...
  19. Auto Fallback & Fallforward ...

  21. It does not say, V.32 at 9600 bps.

  23. Is this automatically implied by 14,400 bps/V.32bis?

  25. Or is it possible that it operates in a non-standard way at 9600 bps,
  26. or that it doesn't operate at 9600 bps at all?

  28. Also, what's a 16550 UART Interface?

  30. I always thought the 16550 UART was a chip, not an interface.

  32. Any other comments about that modem? Are there better deals?
  33. (It has also V.42, V.42bis, MNP 2-5 protocols, send/receive fax
  34. at 14,400 and 9600 bps, etc.)
