He is deadly serious, and you must be unfortunate to have ears that can always
pick up the high pitched noises.
True, they always whine, but a "scream" as I've known it is unbearable. Myfirst 1302 developed a scream, and you could thump it and itd go away. Turned out
to not only be the flyback, but the tube had blown also (With one month left on the warranty!) so I basically received a new monitor.
I also had a plus that did the same thing. Our TV whines, but not too bad. If
active matrix screens get to the point where they are really fast enough to
do 30fps video, then I would happily welcome in the demise of tubes.
