- We have bought around 30 Dells over the last 6 months and have had minimum
- problems. Two motherboards were returned (rapidly and without questions)
- after (probably) a bad network card did its thing. We have also had a bad
- Mitshibushi monitor dead on arrival out of the batch. Other than that, the
- machines have been a delight to install and use. By the way, these machines
- have been various versions of the small footprint desktops, including the
- 320SX, 325SX, and 333DX. Originally we bought the 320SX's, but the prices
- kept dropping and the models kept being upgraded by Dell over the time with
- and without our knowledge. We did not complain.
-
- We have also bought around 5 486/50DX Gateways. Although the machines are
- basically sound, we have had a higher failure rate (2 out of 5) and the
- machines had enough differences in the hardware to make installation of
- software more difficult, especially in disk controllers and video cards.
- Gateway is also less responsive on the telephone support (more waiting, etc)
- than Dell. However, you really do have trouble beating their prices.
