- I think you just answered your own question. A 386 BIOS will not work
- well (if at all) with a 486, because the cache controller is unknown to
- it. I wouldn't even try it, based on having tried a 386 BIOS on a 486
- motherboard without success.

- If it did work I would expect it to be quite slow without enabling the
- cache.

- That's not a "for sure" answer, but it's based on some real experience
- and some solid reasons why I wouldn't expect it to work.
